How to Cook Japanese Rice in a Rice Cooker

From my kitchen in Japan

A rice cooker is the most ordinary way to make rice in many Japanese homes. Short-grain rice gives the texture expected with Japanese curry, donburi and set meals.

Ingredients

  • Uncooked Japanese short-grain rice450 g (3 rice-cooker cups)
  • Water540 ml, or use the cooker line

How to make it

  1. Wash the rice several times until the water is much less cloudy, then drain.
  2. Put the washed rice into the rice cooker and add the measured water.
  3. Cook using the normal white-rice setting. When finished, fluff the rice gently from the bottom before serving.
